Welcome and a good Monday to all. Today, we explore the basic principles of being a disciple of Jesus Christ, and how to live a life of devotion and dedication to Him.
To start, let’s discuss the importance of prayer. Prayer is both a vital part of our spiritual growth, and an avenue for us to humbly acknowledge and ask for God’s grace and guidance. As scripture says in Philippians 4:6-7, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God”.
The next essential element is reading and studying the Bible. The Bible is filled with stories, teachings and examples of followers of Jesus Christ. By studying Scripture, we learn about God’s will for our lives and how to faithfully serve Him. It also helps us to gain wisdom and understand what is right versus wrong. We are encouraged to read the Bible daily, to reflect on it, and then act upon our findings.
Developing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is also important, as He is our Lord and Savior. This relationship may involve worship in a church or in private, singing and praising His name, and talking to Him throughout our day.
Being a disciple of Jesus Christ requires us to demonstrate His love through our own lives. We should strive to act with faith, humility, patience and kindness, as an example to others around us. We could also be of service in our community by volunteering in various ministries or engaging in charitable acts. This could include donating money to help those in need or serving meals at a local soup kitchen.
Finally, living a dedicated Christian life entails pursuing God with an unrelenting sense of enthusiasm and passion. A disciple of Jesus Christ should strive to bring Him more glory every day. By living a spiritual life full of faith, prayer, meditation and Biblical study, and through being generous of heart and soul with our neighbors, we can become devoted followers of Jesus Christ and bear witness to His saving grace.
