“But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, you of little faith? ” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea. And there was a great calm.”
In Matthew 8 we see the disciples fearing for their life as a storm rages on the sea and they fear their boat will sink. Jesus is woken up from His sleep, He rebukes the disciples for having no faith and then He calms the storm. This story fascinates me. How could these disciples who have already witnessed the power of Jesus be so fearful when He was with them? The answer is when things looked bleak their faith waned. There are times when my faith has waned as well, a time when I was fearful even though I have seen the Lord move many times in my life. We must remember that Jesus Christ is with us in our boat as we sail the seas of life, and when a storm hits He can control the wind and the waves.
